Colour Notes: Feeling of the Moment

Some colours are not just colours. They hold a mood. Cloud Dancer and Rosso Ancora are two of them. Together, they seem to say something about the feeling of the moment.

Gucci’s Rosso Ancora was introduced in 2023, with the arrival of Italian designer Sabato De Sarno as creative director. In a short time, it became one of the house’s most recognisable signatures.
There is a quiet irony in that. The colour he created as part of Gucci’s renewal remained, while De Sarno himself later departed from the house, after his vision was considered too restrained for the livelier image Gucci seemed to be seeking.
The story of Rosso Ancora is layered, much like the color itself. Sitting somewhere between cherry and burgundy, it was inspired by the historic lift inside The Savoy in London, where a young Guccio Gucci once worked as a luggage porter.
In a way, the roots of the house began there. After his experience at The Savoy, Gucci returned to Florence and opened his first leather luggage workshop in 1921. The spirit of that story still echoes today in the Gucci Savoy collection.

Between Stillness and Depth
Rosso Ancora is one of those rare colours that connects heritage with modern luxury without needing to explain itself too much. As Laurie Pressman of the Pantone Color Institute described it, it is neither a passing trend nor a dull classic. It carries its strength through a quiet sense of elegance.
When placed next to Pantone’s 2026 Colour of the Year, Cloud Dancer, that elegance shifts into something softer.

Cloud Dancer, described by Pressman as a desire for a new beginning, feels like a blank page in a world that has become increasingly loud, both online and offline. Rosso Ancora is the ink that gives that page emotion. One feels like breath. The other, like pulse.

Together, they tell a story beyond trend. A new beginning is always possible, but it becomes more meaningful when it keeps a quiet connection with what came before.
Fashion is not only about appearance. It is also about memory, mood and the way certain details stay with us. For 2026, perhaps this is the colour story: softness with depth, clarity with feeling, and a beginning that does not erase the past.
